My understanding is that Rome has recognized him as a martyr and may still one day go further. As a Protestant, I'll also toss in the pesky observation that "saint" in the New Testament is used to describe all those set apart by faith in Jesus. I've been told the Catholic Church acknowledges this meaning of the word, as well as the one related to canonization.
That aside, Franz certainly had an extraordinary spiritual mettle. One of the reasons I wrote about him was in the hope that more Christians of all traditions would come to know his story. I'm so glad you're aware of him now, and thanks so much for commenting!
Franz’s faith is a testimony to the simple truth that it’s not correct theology that saves us but our surrender & devotion to the Lord Jesus.
Well written, David, thanks for sharing this!
Amazing. I will have to watch that movie!
Thanks for reading! The movie is very good, although 3 hours long. Not Hollywood pacing. You might want to watch over 2 nights.
Thank you for bringing this valiant man to my attention. I am surprised he is not on the path to sainthood?

Thank you for posting. His faithfulness is incredible and shines light on my feeble standing.
